Carriage Trips around picturesque Howth

Go Carriage Driving

On sunny weekends and fine summer evenings we offer carriage driving trips at the summit of the scenic Howth peninsula.

Forget about the hustle and bustle around you and take a gentle, leisurely drive across the moors of Howth - see pheasants and seagulls simultaneously or maybe even a couple of fox cubs frolicking before bedtime on a sunny summer evening.

Fantastic Views

On fine sultry days you can see the coast of Wales to the East, the Wicklow Mountains as far South as Arklow, and the Mountains of Mourne to the North looking out across the beautiful islands of Ireland's Eye and Lambay Island.

Have a picnic down near the remote Baily Lighthouse, favoured by artists for the wonderful red colours of the sky at sunset.

Travel up the West Mountain for a bumpy but beautiful ride on the wilder side of Howth to see how narrow the isthmus of the peninsula is and look back towards Dublin Bay and the city.

Duration

A short circuitous trip with fantastic Dublin Bay and Baily Lighthouse views lasts about half an hour.
Longer trips of an hour's duration can take in the West Mountain as well.

We can, however, provide longer tours, incorporating picnics, lunch, etc. tailored to suit your itinerary, always bearing in mind the welfare of the horse. These longer trips must be pre-booked.

Up to 4 adults (or six children) can travel on our comfortable wagonette at any one time.

All trips depart from Howth Summit carpark at the top of the Bailey Green Road.

What to Wear

Warm clothing and flat shoes (trainers or walking shoes/boots) are essential. As carriage driving is an elegant traditional sport, you might want to look the part and wear a hat and gloves (any well fitting hat, bearing in mind the wind, or a riding hat or cycling hat for safety.

And like any outdoor sport in Ireland, you could bring along waterproof clothing. However, if the weather is inclement we reserve the right to cancel, adjourn or amend any trip or tour in the interests of safety.
